The Princes Trust is a charity that gives young people a chance to succeed. It all began in 1976, when HRH The Prince of Wales had a bold idea. Having completed his duty in the Royal Navy, His Royal Highness became dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK. He founded His Trust to deliver on that commitment. They help people aged 13 to 30 to transform their lives and gives them a better chance at getting employed, going onto further training or education. Many of the young people they help are in, or leaving, care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or have been in trouble with the law. Their free programmes give young people the practical and financial support they need to stabilise their lives. They help them develop key skills while boosting their confidence and motivation.
On the course we aimed to give all our students the core skills they needed to build a basic website and fit into a work place environment. The skills we covered are: HTML & CSS, Problem Solving, Team Exercises, Confidence, Presentation skills and Time Management. By the time the course had finished all the students showed a massive improvement in all of these areas. The first week was learning about branding, basic web development/design and working on getting to know each other. The second week started with getting into teams and being pitched ideas from employers to be developed over the week. Throughout the week they developed the initial idea for their websites to pitch back to the employers(customers) at the end of the week. All in all they did fantastic and showcased a variety of improved confidence and skills.
The only requirements on this course were that you showed interest in getting into the digital sector and have an interest in the creative industry or working with computers. If you matched these qualities then you would have been invited along to the taster day with the Princes Trust at the Tramshed. On the taster day we found the most suitable candidates as places on the course were limited. We aimed to get the best candidates for the course and we tried our best to get all candidates into work after the course had finished.
Overall my experience with Codez Academy has been amazing. From barely knowing anything about coding to be able to create a website in a week is something I never thought I could of achieved. The whole experience was very friendly and supportive. The course has helped me to develop my skills, such as confidence, presentation skills and pitching my product to an audience. I have grown in ways i wasn't expecting and i would reccomend the Get Into courses for anyone who wants a boost into employment. Thank you to Codez Academy and the Princes Trust for giving me this opportunity.
I left school without anything, I thought I wasn't going to be able to do anything, until the Princes Trust got me into a Get Into Digital run by the Codez Academy. My whole experience has been wicked and I loved every second of it. When I first came to Codez Academy I knew nothing about coding and not that much about the digital sector, but after two weeks of being taught be Codez Academy I can now build a website. Not only did it not give me coding skills it also boosted my confidence and speaking skills, I would highly recommend Codez Academy and I would like to thank them and the Princes Trust for giving me the opportunity to do something with my life.
